Abstract :
The main subject of this paper is to present a didactic procedure and an hardware equipment used for air pollution assessment and air quality assessment, nearby a thermal power plant, based on an expert system. The architecture of the expert system, both hardware and software, is described briefly as well as the main principles of the software involved. A didactic method used for transmitting to students all this knowledge is revealed, as well as the on-line procedure for a virtual laboratory used by our students. It involves three different stages, from taking measurements, data analysis up to conclusions. At the end of this paper, some real measurements of this IT based system are presented, as the result of working with some Power Engineering students around a Romanian coal based power plant and in our laboratories.
