Abstract :
The construction of new transmission facilities, or enhancing transmission network, increases the reliability and security of the power system. Enhancing transmission network increases the amount of power that can be transmitted through the system, which, in most cases, allows the increase of electricity trading volume. However, in practice there may be cases, primary due to methods used for congestion management, where construction of new transmission facility, which was built in order to increase the reliability and security of the system, reduces the amount of power available to market participants for electricity trading. This paper is an example of one such case, as well as the proposal on how changing of the topology of transmission network can counteract this phenomenon, and take advantage of newly constructed transmission facilities.
