Abstract :
The inverted-F antenna, for personal communication networks (PCN), was characterised by looking into their matching techniques and by measuring their overall radiation patterns at 1.8 GHz. Besides the readiness of matching this type of antenna it was shown that its radiation pattern is rather directional. This interesting feature, should it be exploited properly, could provide a better signal reception as well as better protection to the user body. It is felt that this is achievable by controlling, to a certain limit, the structure dimensions and/or the shape of the handset ground plane
