Abstract :
For the last ten years, the Croatian energy sector, under the pressure of liberalisation and establishment of the open market has been passing through significant changes which are reflected on the new model of control and planning of the electric power system (EPS). Especially important is the impact of the construction of new privately-owned RES, mainly wind power plants. Under the pressure of the Third Energy Package of the European Commission, the national electrical power industry has been restructured and new entities (regulator, market operator) have been created. This paper analyses the existing and the new model of control and planning of the operation of the Croatian electrical power system and the impact of market design on the RES integration to the system. According to the new model, which is based on the new national legislation and aligned with the acquis communautaire (AC), three large entities for operation planning will be formed. Their organisation and operation will be monitored by the national regulator.
