Abstract
The ATM network has been attracting attention as a means of realizing high-speed, multimedia communications. This paper presents a hardware-based implementation design of a shaper function in the end system for the ATM network. Our designed shaper supports all service categories (CBR, VBR, ABR, and UBR) and realizes with a simple control for the adaptive rate fluctuations and simple configurations for the rate control block and the congestion control block. To ascertain the performance of this shaper function, the cell emission delay caused by contention control are evaluated by means of computer simulation
