Abstract :
The reliability of broadband signalling networks is critical due to the increase in signalling information required for future intelligent services. This paper clarifies desirable reliability techniques for broadband signalling networks by means of simulation. Our simulation results indicate that VP re-routing has some advantages of MTP-3 re-routing under the condition that the VP re-routing mechanism re-routes cells within 100 ms after failure detection. To meet this requirement, a VP 1+1 protection-switching mechanism characterized by two parallel VPs or a pre-assigned VP re-routing mechanism is suitable for the signalling networks. This paper also proposes a signalling network simulator including the ATM layer and AAL capabilities
