Abstract
In WCDMA systems, the spreading factor (SF) of a user is allowed change as a new radio frame (length 10 ms) starts. The receiver does not know in advance the SF a user is really using. In this paper, techniques to detect the used spreading factor are studied. The problem is formulated as a general SF detection problem for a DS-CDMA systems. The optimal detector as well as the suboptimal autocorrelation based detector were studied. It was found that the SF detection can be devised rather reliably by a simple autocorrelation based detection algorithm
