Abstract :
The Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) is publishing a completely revised version of the SPM (Single Point Mooring) Hawser Guidelines. The general procedures remain the same: First a rope manufacturer prepares design specifications for a particular rope and conducts prototype tests to demonstrate its properties. When ordering hawsers, the purchaser can then consider rope performance as well as price. In fulfilling an order, the manufacturer produces rope to the applicable specification, and the inspector verifies its quality to that specification. By this process, without further testing, the purchaser is assured that the rope will perform like the prototype. Much of the material remains essentially the same as in the earlier 1987 edition. Newer rope materials and constructions are now included. Documentation and quality control procedures are clarified. Prototype test procedures remain the same. Some terminology is changed. Calculation methods are clarified and demonstrated
