Abstract
A mathematical model of a cycloconverter-fed synchronous motor (CFSM) drive system with air-gap flux-oriented control is made. On this basis, a set of software is developed by using the object-oriented programming (OOP) method to simulate the dynamic performance of the CFSM. Three processes are simulated-speed sudden reversion, load step-up change and flux-weakening operation. At the same time, the losses of damper windings are calculated. Using these results, this paper explains the influences of damper bars in the dynamic process. Finally, the design rules for damper windings of a CFSM system are presented
