Abstract :
It has been shown that CDMA systems which employ digital beamforming and base station antenna arrays potentially have significantly increased capacity. Therefore, methods are required to accurately predict the performance of these systems. One such method evaluates the system performance by studying the electromagnetic behavior of the base station antenna array. Unfortunately, in most studies using this method the effects of mutual coupling in closely-spaced array elements as well as scattering due to multipath propagation are not considered, thus leading to potentially less accurate system performance predictions. The development of an improved method where the effects of both mutual coupling and scattering are included in the system capacity predictions are presented and applied to system performance prediction
