Data mining is the synthesis of several technology areas, including statistical analysis, artificial intelligence (including machine learning and natural language processing), visualization, and database management. Analysis via data mining has been used in the financial and retailing industries. More recently, data mining has been used in law enforcement and in e-commerce applications. There continue to be many new areas for improvement and exploration in the area of data mining
