Abstract :
The WCDMA solution for IMT-2000 will provide wireless access to a wide range of existing and future applications. In this scenario, structured quality of service (QoS) handling is of utmost importance in order to achieve good spectral efficiency and to simplify network management. This paper presents a set of simple radio network algorithms that provide a means of maintaining quality for simultaneous applications with different requirements. Radio network simulation results demonstrate that speech quality can be guaranteed while utilizing the remaining radio resources for data services. There is also a trade-off between the quality for the data service and system capacity that the operator can control with the admission control policy. A case of multiple data services with different priorities is also addressed, and a suitable scheduling mechanism is presented that is able to differentiate the relative quality of the different services
