Mobile agent (MA) technology presents an important abstraction mechanism when designing distributed environments and allows the user to manage distributed information indirectly through their mobile agents. We discuss the application of MA in an ATM network management (NM) system. The management framework and implementation are depicted. The advantage of using MA is apparent by a performance comparison with SNMP
