Abstract :
The combination of a high-speed LAN and a broadband video-distribution network based on the WDM/SCM broadcast and select technology was described. To confirm the feasibility of the physical layer, we tested a 38-Mbit/s, 800 channel system (10 wavelengths with 80 subcarriers) that used 256 quadrature amplitude modulation and high-power and flat-gain EDFAs. This architecture will be a good candidate for the low cost high-speed networks needed to support streaming-media applications
