Abstract :
A real time lip reading system is proposed and is developed using a commercial personal computer. A modified sampled active contour model is adopted to extract lip shapes from a series of face images. By using this model, fast and exact extraction is accomplished. The new lip reading parameters are investigated and are recognized by a hidden Markov model (HMM). The experimental results are included to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed system
