Abstract :
We present a comprehensive study on the efficiency and the spatial quality of high-order harmonic generation. We show that the highest efficiency and the best spatial quality are simultaneously achieved by controlling the gas density and the interaction length. The experimental results are well explained by a quasi-two-dimensional simulation model, which includes three important mechanisms: propagation, phase matching and absorption
