Abstract :
Recently, the authors have reexamined the potential for adapting high sensitivity IR imaging techniques to detect pathological features of disease (tumor angiogenesis), in order to fulfil an unmet scientific and clinical need in cancer research and therapy. Data from early preclinical studies is presented and discussed. They conclude that the infrared sensor is an a important new research tool for exploring the biological and clinical correlates of tumor angiogenesis. Advances can be made by integrating the current knowledge and efforts of specialists in the multiple disciplines of engineering, molecular and cellular biology, oncology, radiology, and biotechnology
