Abstract :
This review describes the biomass, which categorize as liquid, from industry or farming. Its advantages make biomass and biological process more environment friendly and less energy intensive as compared to thermo-chemical and electrochemical processes. Unfortunately, research and application of biomass are yet in their infancy and suffer from large scale because of low productivity. Reviewing the many researches that are working at the utilization of Biodiesel waste as glycerol sources, POME and lignocellulosic biomass for bio-refineries could encourage the utilization of biomass from laboratory research to be applied in industry. For this reason, biomass usage as industrial raw material will be effective in solving the environmental problems. In addition, its conversion to hydrogen gas (H2) could offer an alternative solution to the energy crisis from fossil fuel. The efficient methods of POME utilization as raw material for bio- H2 production reached 3195 mL H2/L-medium and 1034 mL H2/L-medium/h, respectively. The H2 content in the biogas produced was in the range of 60-70%.
