Abstract :
Summary form only given. One of the distinctive features of two-(2D) and three-dimensional (3D) photonic crystals is that the energy-wavevector dispersions of the photonic bands are anomalous, other than the existence of the band gap. In this paper, we report on a finding that the phase-matching condition in second-harmonic generation (SHG) can be readily fulfilled in a 2D photonic crystal. An experiment was performed in such a way that a small amount of non-centrosymmetric fine particles of organic crystal were introduced into air-rods of a 2D crystal, and the intensity of the SHG signal generated from those particles in a collinear configuration was measured as a function of incident light frequency /spl omega/.
