Abstract
Summary form only given. Recent advancements in low-dimensional device fabrications of quantum dots and wires have been approaching nature´s limitations such as statistical size fluctuations. We have recently demonstrated that an ideal quantum wire nature can be achieved from a vertical cavity-laser (VCL)-like structure, which naturally provides a toroidal microcavity of three-dimensional whispering gallery modes in the peripheral region of the active multi-quantum-well (QW) planes of the cylindrical VCL.
