Abstract :
Although frequently used in fractal compression quadrant-based classification exhibits a significant defect which has not been described in the literature. We give an efficient solution to this problem by controlling the class structure based on an adaptive threshold. This makes this classification technique a very efficient and competitive one also for block matching motion compensation algorithms in video coding
