  • Abstract
    In the last few years, the wireless local loop (WLL) has been shown to be an attractive alternative to the wired technology for large bandwidth services provisioning. We introduce an IP-based WLL system supporting different services such as fast Internet access, data, voice and videoconference. The proposed system guarantees quality of service (QoS) requirements to different service classes through a MAC protocol named RQDMA (ReQuest based Dynamic Multiple Access) that employs a dynamic bandwidth-sharing algorithm providing high efficiency and fairness among users. The access technique is based on multicarrier CDMA. We also present the inter-working of RQDMA with the IETF Reservation Protocol (RSVP) and an extensive performance evaluation to assess the efficiency, fairness and delay performance of RQDMA with realistic traffic sources
