Abstract :
Summary form only given. Soliton transmission systems can be severely limited by arrival time jitter. In order to calculate the bit-error-rate (BER), the arrival time statistics must be known. A deviation from the Gaussian statistics induced by soliton interaction has already been reported. We show below that in-line soliton control (filtering and synchronous modulations) is responsible for even larger modifications of the statistics, which influences the characterization of the transmission systems.
