Abstract
Usually the Fourier coefficients are obtained directly via the canonical method in which the integrated function is required. In practice, the integrated function is hardly acquired for a physical system. In order to overcome the drawback of the canonical method, we apply computational intelligence, which includes genetic algorithm (GA) and the back propagation (BP) algorithm of artificial neural network (ANN), to calculate the Fourier coefficients indirectly. Using the two approaches, only the sample data of the integrated function are needed. Experimental results show the validity and efficiency of the above approaches
