Abstract
A uni-directional three-level active rectifier topology is investigated and evaluated for medium voltage applications. The topological differences mandated by different power semiconductors are shown. Switching functions for a harmonic elimination modulation scheme are derived and discussed. The performance of the uni-directional active front-end is investigated and compared to that of a passive rectifier for a 1.8 MVA, 4.16 kV medium voltage converter system
