Abstract
In this paper we compare the charging of relatively large capacitors using two adiabatic charging techniques and an abrupt charging via a conventional CMOS buffer. The considered capacitors can be found in long interconnections on chip as well as off chip. We introduce two circuits, one using adiabatic charging through diodes and one employing fully adiabatic charging. We show that it can be worthwhile to use those circuits, as we can report an energy saving of up to one magnitude for a wide range of voltages, capacitances and frequencies
