Abstract
A combined electromagnetic and thermal analysis of microwave batch sterilization of water is presented, based on a one-dimensional model, both with respect to the electromagnetic wave propagation and heat transfer. The model incorporates impedance matching tuners, which ape continuously optimized to maximize the power delivered to the water sample, whose parameters change with temperature. Numerical results are included showing typical power and transient temperature profiles in water
