Abstract :
The paper reviews the physical principles of thermal radiation measurement at microwave frequencies. A 4.4 GHz microwave thermometer with compensation of reflection coefficient and digital control loop is presented. The radiometer is applied to making three-dimensional thermal maps of human tissues. Reflection coefficient compensation is discussed, using as an example a simple model of noise power exchange at the antenna-object interface. In addition, measurements for various reflection coefficients (0.05+0.9) are presented in a graphical manner
