Abstract :
A 16-element planar active phased array in L-band, in its receive mode of operation, has been presented, for an experimental study on its radiation pattern characteristics in realising low-sidelobe performance and beam steering over the array scan angle. The results on this small-size active phased array, with a hardware simulator, have provided solutions to problems due to phase and amplitude quantisation, mutual coupling between the radiating elements, and the correction of phase and amplitude errors in the array excitation coefficients over a large frequency band of operation and over a wide array scan angle
