Abstract
Healthcare is one of the major growth areas in developed economies, but demand outstrips supply nevertheless. This paper discusses the research opportunities afforded in health informatics and computing, and in particular the activities of the Centre for Health Informatics and Computing (CHIC) at Brunel University. The "Soft Information Systems and Technologies Methodology" (SISTeM), simulation modelling and decision-making are introduced as areas of CHIC\´s expertise, and other emerging approaches are outlined.
