  • Abstract
This guide presents an introduction to the various battery types used in stationary applications, and the process of selecting the right battery for a specific application. Battery selection, however, is not an end in itself. It is the necessary foundation for optimizing battery life and reliability, but those results cannot be achieved without proper installation and maintenance. While installation costs are rarely questioned, maintenance programs are subjected to the full scrutiny of corporate budget-cutters. This guide shows the latest IEEE recommendations for the maintenance of the major battery types and provides an insight into the most critical aspects of battery maintenance and testing
