Abstract :
Information Technologies (IT) can be very useful for the patient records or the execution of tasks in a clinical environment. Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) contributions include assistance in diagnoses, automatic dosage of medication, easier access to a patient´s medical history, reduction of waiting and staying times, and so on. Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) in ZigBee Technology can supply information about medical conditions. The patients with chronic diseases who need only therapeutic supervision can be monitored and at a distance through wearable devices. Using WBAN, hospital overcrowding could be solved. WBANs can be a factor in reducing the mortality rate caused by chronic diseases. Low-power with local processing and encoding capabilities of the ECG signal, mobility and flexibility are the main goal; miniaturization is other essential physical requirement. Preliminary tests for the ECG signal in a WBAN solution will be presented below.
