Abstract :
This paper evaluates the performance of two different handoff priority oriented MAC protocols for CDMA-based integrated voice/data wireless network. Both of them are based on an existing movable boundary MAC protocol. The first scheme provides some reserved channels called guard channels for handoff attempts. In the second prioritized handoff scheme considered, handoff attempts finding all channels busy are queued for a maximum time according to the first-in-first-out (FIFO) policy. The performance of both schemes is compared with the non-priority scheme. New calls voice blocking probability, forced termination probability and average data delay are evaluated. Simulation results suggest that, guard channels movable boundary scheme improve forced termination probability as well as average data delay dramatically at the cost of new calls blocking probability. On the other hand, the queuing handoff movable boundary scheme significantly improves handoff calls performance with a slight degradation on new calls and data performance only at high voice loading conditions
