Abstract :
This paper presents a system to monitor the voltage of overhead transmission lines by the use of the corona discharge phenomena. This enables it to be done remotely without the need for a solid contact with the line. The system takes into account all present partial discharges. An optical transmission system is used to transmit the signal to the control centre. Prototype circuit diagrams have been designed. A neural network has been used for pattern recognition to identify the corona discharge waveform. Simulation results are reported, together with a discussion of various problems
