Abstract :
The novel use of the longitudinal magneto-optical effect for the development of residual current devices is discussed. The need for a reliable measurement system for the characterisation of candidate materials is addressed. Due to the importance of establishing a set of candidate materials for implementing such devices. Results from tests using the developed system and a ferrofluid sensor are presented
