Abstract :
Multimedia information retrieval constitutes a very active multidisciplinary research area. We first attempt to characterize the various works and prominent challenges of the field and subsequently present a retrieval platform that supports progressive searches and query specification, post-coordination of descriptions and semantic modeling in a network environment as well as works on achieving effectiveness through user interactions
