Abstract :
There are many optimization problems for which it is very difficult to obtain the exact solution within a practical time. In this case, we use approximation algorithms, such as the genetic algorithm (GA). The GA is a model of biological evolution. We propose a new optimization algorithm, called the “team model”, modeled on educational processes. There are some variations in the team model. We first examined the case where the worst individual in the team becomes a student and the other individuals become teachers. In other words, many teachers teach one student. We call this teaching operation the teaching-the-worst (TW) operation. However, in the real world, one teacher teaches several students in most cases. So, in this paper, we propose the taught-by-the-best (TB) operation, which imitates the case where one teacher teaches many students. We compare the TB operation with the TW operation. We also compare the “team model/TB” with the GA. We show that this method is effective for many problems
