Abstract
Because implementation of baseband algorithms is often realized in application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), software simulations are the necessary first step. Considerable time and effort is spent in simulating new technologies for digital wireless communications. These simulations can be time-consuming to develop, and even more time-consuming to execute. For these reasons, we are highly motivated to seek improvements in execution speed and developer productivity. We turn to an investigation of C++ as a simulation language to accomplish both goals. This paper describes the results of tests conducted comparing C and C++ implementations of algorithms and constructs that are common to digital wireless communication systems
