Abstract :
We live in an exploding information age with increasing requirements for high information content communication. It is increasingly evident that visual media, especially color video media, are the preferred method of satisfying such high information content communication needs. Candescent believes that field emission displays will satisfy a wide range of existing and emerging video centric applications. In particular, Candescent believes that its ThinCRT field emission display with its full color, full video image in a lightweight, power efficient package will serve both the 5-7" markets and, in the not too distant future, monitor and television markets in the 24" to 40" range or for larger sizes. This paper reviews the technology of various field emitter displays and compares them with the other major flat panel display technologies, reviews Candescent\´s ThinCRT technology, and discusses Candescent\´s view of the future for field emission displays
