Abstract
The deregulated market for electrical energy requires a noticeable cost reduction in power distribution systems. This paper presents a short overview of the different possibilities for reducing the operational cost of such distribution systems. It shows that a remarkable, maybe underestimated, potential for cost reduction is accessible by network restructuring and the hereby reduced operational and reinvestment costs. An example shows the amount of savings over a prospective period of 20 years
