  • Abstract
    This paper mainly describes a new uniform quantization scheme named adaptive uniform quantization (AUQ). It is an improvement to the traditional uniform quantization (UQ). Because its uniform quantization space can be changed according to the channel distortion, AUQ is more suitable for abstracting soft information than UQ in an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel so has better performance. And because it avoids the prohibitive implementation complexity which exists in the nonuniform quantization scheme, AUQ is more suitable for practical applications as well. This paper describes not only the basic principle of AUQ but also some of its implementation issues in a WCDMA system. We also propose an improved receiver structure based on AUQ for a WCDMA system
