Abstract :
We present a new type of hierarchical channel coding and transmission scheme for image transmission, which makes use of the iteration process of the powerful turbo codes and the (2,1,3) convolutional code. This new type of scheme exploits the characteristics that the data of the source have unequal importance and unequal sensitivity to interference from noisy channels. We show, by experiments and analyzing, that this type of scheme has good power-efficient performance and unequal error protection (UEP) performance
