Abstract :
In FDMA/TDMA systems, co-channel interference is a fundamental limiting factor on the capacity. Power control (PC) and beamforming using adaptive antennas have been proposed to mitigate co-channel interference and increase system capacity. In this paper, we integrate these two techniques and use large-scale computer simulations to evaluate the system performance and the interactions between them in a realistic mobile environment. We show that the integrated system can achieve a significant capacity gain and performance improvement. In addition, we note that the separate capacity gains achieved by PC and beamforming are not additive, due to the significant overlap in their measures to improve the capacity
