Abstract
We investigate the applicability of some simple down link diversity methods to the 3rd generation enhanced data-rates for global evolution (EDGE) system. Delay diversity and phase hopping schemes are ideal candidates for this purpose. In order to take advantage of both delay diversity and phase hopping gains, we introduce a new hopped delay diversity scheme that can offer attractive diversity gains under all channel conditions for any EDGE modulation and coding scheme (MCS). This new structure can be easily extended to an arbitrary number of antennas in a simple way
