Abstract :
This paper describes the relationship between what is well known to the users or system architects (node generated traffic) and parameters important to the LAN designers (offered traffic). The offered traffic (traffic a LAN deals with) may be substantially larger than the original traffic owing to multiple retransmissions. As an example, the typical cellular traffic environment is taken to look at the selection process in choosing the adequate type of Ethernet.
