This paper describes the design of closed-loop control laws for flexible structures using a projected phase-plane approach. The resulting controllers lead to near time-optimal performance without unwanted residual vibrations. After the basic technique is outlined for an undamped system, extensions are then given considering different acceleration and deceleration capabilities, slew rate limitations, and damping
