Abstract
The new design, principle of operation, and physical processes in a microcell Si avalanche photodiode with limited Geiger mode gain muCAPD(GM) are presented. Also experimental results on gain, efficiency of photon registration in the Geiger mode in the optical range of illumination, signal-noise ratio and another characteristics of the photodiode are presented. The high gain (>10ˆ5) and high efficiency of photon registration (35+-5)% for green photons makes such photodiode very useful for photon registration from scintillating fibers and for the creation of scintillation microdetectors with a useful area in the range 10ˆ2-10ˆ7 square micrometers for medical and biological purposes-for example digital radiography and PET
