Abstract :
If TCP flows have smaller maximum-window sizes, the transmission rate of these flows will be controlled by rather maximum-window sizes than the drops from bottleneck link. So it is necessary to consider the effect of maximum-window size confined on studying the queue management in routers of the network. The formula of maximum discard probability for random early detection (RED) algorithm was derived according to the network stochastic differential equation (SDE) model of Misra´s. Using estimated value of maximum discard probability instead of typical value in RED gateway can get: the average queue sizes are more stable; jitter of delay is alleviated; good throughput and link utilization are increased; the discard rate is reduced. Above conclusions were verified with simulations
