Abstract
This paper demonstrates a proof of concept wavelength conversion system that consolidates multiple existing Passive Optical Networks (PON) architectures into a long-reach wavelength division multiplexing backhaul. Experimental results of the performance of such a system are presented, showing a 10Gbit/s error free transmission over a maximum of 80km of standard fibre including 20km PON distribution and 60km backhaul section.
