Abstract :
This letter proposes a novel differential protection scheme for transmission lines based on skewness. The skewnesses of the differential current and restraining current are used jointly to identify the fault in transmission lines. The proposed scheme does not need to compensate the distributed capacitive current and is immune to noise. The feasibility of proposed scheme has been verified on a 1000 kV transmission line using PSCAD/EMTDC.
